Thomas Patrick “Tom” Colicchio (/klikjo/; born August 15, 1962) is an American star chef. He co-founded the Gramercy Tavern in Nyc, and previously served as a co-owner so when the executive chef. He’s in addition the creator of Craft and Colicchio & Sons eateries. Colicchio is the receiver of five James Beard Foundation Medals for cooking achievements. He’s become the head judge on each season of Bravo reality TV show “Top Chef”. Colicchio is a featured chef on Great Chefs Television.

He’s of Italian ancestry on either side. He’s been married to filmmaker Lori Silverbush since 2001. He’s three sons. In July 1994, Colicchio and his associate Danny Meyer started the Gramercy Tavern in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan. It had been voted Most Popular Restaurant in NYC by the Zagat Survey in 2003 and 2005. He sold his interest in 2006 and is not associate with the eatery. In spring 2001, he started the initial Craft eatery one block south of Gramercy Tavern. A year after, he started the first Craftsteak at the MGM Grand in Vegas. In 2003, he started the first ‘wichcraft’, his sandwich store. In 2010, he started Colicchio & Sons, and additionally Riverpark. Soon after the September 11 strikes, Colicchio joined volunteers serving food to rescue workers at Ground Zero. Colicchio functioned as the primary consulting producer on Bravo’s Top Chef spinoff show entitled Top Chef Masters. Colicchio won the 2010 Excellent Chef prize from the James Beard Foundation. Colicchio has written three cookbooks. He’s also Executive Producer of “A Place At The Table.” His time on Top Chef hasn’t been without controversy. He is accused by several observers and reporters of sexism. Most notably in season 11 where in the last episode he seemed to intimidate other judges into giving the top prize to Nicholas Elmi, a chef that had been consistently in the underside and had issue seasoning his food over first-class chef, Nina Compton. The backlash was so intense that Colicchio posted the judge’s scores to Twitter in an effort to justify his activities. Colicchio has vehemently denied the claims of sexism.
