Sting is been nicknamed as “The King of Pain” after his hit 1983 tune. Sting’s lyrics are known for his or her downbeat yet complex layers and textures. He’s best known as the principal songwriter, lead singer, and bassist for the initiating new wave rock band The Police, as well as for his subsequent solo career. Sting has altered his musical style, integrating distinct aspects of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-era, and worldbeat into his music. He’s received 16 Grammy Awards, hree Brit Awards, a Golden Globe award, an Emmy Award, and many Oscar nominations for Best Original Song. He was inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002 as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an associate of The Police in 2003.
Sting is probably best known for being an associate of The Police and to get a prolific career as a solo artist. Sting attended Northern Counties College of Education from 1971-1974. After school he qualified to be a teacher and later got a job at St. Paul’s Middle School in Cramlington, where he’d remain for two years. His first music occupations were in local nightclubs, playing in jazz bands, wherever he could get employment. His nickname “Sting” came after he performed wearing a black and yellow striped jumper the bandleader said made him look as a wasp. In 1977, following a move to London, Sting joined up with all the group, The Police. Their self-titled debut album sold 8 million copies in America alone. To date, The Authorities have sold over 50 million records globally.
