Stephen Tyrone Colbert (/kolbr/, n: /kolbrt/; produced May 13, 1964) is an American political satirist, writer, comedian, television host, and performer. He could be the host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report”, a satirical news show in which Colbert impersonates a caricatured version of conservative political pundits. Colbert initially studied to be an actor, but became interested in improvisational theater when he met renowned Second City director Del Close while attending Northwestern University.

Colbert also composed and performed about the short lived “Dana Carvey Show” before collaborating with Sedaris and Dinello again on the cult television series “Strangers with Candy”. He got significant attention because of his part on the latter as closeted homosexual history teacher Chuck Noblet. His work as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s news-parody show “The Daily Show” first introduced him to an extensive audience.

In 2005, he left “The Daily Show” to host a spinoff show, “The Colbert Report”. Following “The Daily Show”‘s news-parody theory, “The Colbert Report” is a parody of character-driven political view shows like “The O’Reilly Factor”. Colbert was named one of “Time”‘s 100 most powerful individuals in 2006 and 2012. His novel “I’m America (And So Can You!)” was number one on “The New York Times” Best Seller list.
