Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint (created 24 August 1988) is an English actor who rose to prominence playing Ron Weasley, among the three major characters in the “Harry Potter” film series. Grint was cast as Ron Weasley in the age of 11, having formerly played solely in school plays and at his local theater group.
Starting in 2002, Grint started to work beyond the “Harry Potter” franchise, playing a co-leading character in “Thunderpants”. He’s had starring roles in “Driving Lessons”, a dramedy released in 2006, and “Cherrybomb”, a modest budgeted play of limited release in 2010. Grint costarred with Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt in “Wild Target”, a comedy. His first job after the conclusion of the “Harry Potter” series was the 2012 anti-war film, “Into the White”, where he’s a supporting part. In 2013, Grint’s new movie “CBGB” was launched and he’s been cast in CBS’s new pilot “Superb Clyde”.
Beginning in 2000, cast started for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the bestselling novel written by writer J. K. Rowling. Rowling personally insisted that the cast be British and helped Susie Figgis and director Chris Columbus in casting the characters. Grint selected to try out for the part of protagonist Ron Weasley, one of Harry Potter’s best friends at Hogwarts, because he’d ginger-colored hair, and was a lover of the book series. Having seen a Newsround report about the open cast, he sent in a video of himself rapping about how he wanted to have the part. On 8 August 2000, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and an 11-year old Grint were chosen to play the characters of Harry, Hermione Granger, and Ron, respectively. Grint is the earliest person in the threesome. The release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001 was Grint’s introduction screen performance. Breaking records for opening-day income and opening-weekend takings, it was the highest-grossing movie of the year. It was also critically well-received, scoring mostly favorable reviews from critics. Nevertheless, a number or critics found the adaption remaining loyal to the novel to be both its best and worst quality.
