Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949) is an American musician and singer songwriter. He’s famous for his work together with the E Street Band. Springsteen’s records have contained both commercially accessible rock records and more somber folk-oriented works. Springsteen has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award in addition to being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Right from the start, rock and roll continues to be a dominant influence and Springsteen’s musical and lyrical evocations, in addition to public homage, of artists including Dylan, Presley, Roy Orbison, Gary “U.S.” Bonds, and many others helped to rekindle interest in their music. Springsteen’s other favorite musical style is American folk, apparent on his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, New Jersey, and more firmly on Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad. Springsteen tunes like “This Hard Land” show the lyrical and musical influence of Woody Guthrie.
