William James “Bill” O’Reilly, Jr. (born September 10, 1949) is an American television host, writer, syndicated columnist and political commentator. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, he was employed as a news reporter for various local television stations in America and eventually for CBS News and ABC News. From 1989 to 1995, he was anchorman of the entertainment news program “Inside Edition”.

O’Reilly is broadly considered a conservative commentator, though a few of his positions diverge from conservative orthodoxy. O’Reilly is a documented “Independent” (“See: Political perspectives of Bill O’Reilly”) and qualifies himself as a “traditionalist”. O’Reilly is the author of ten novels, and hosted “The Radio Factor” until early 2009.

The show was renamed The O’Reilly Factor, after O’Reilly’s buddy and branding specialist John Tantillo’s comments upon the “O’Reilly Factor” in the storylines O’Reilly told. The program is typically the best-rated show of the three leading U.S. 24 hour cable news television channels and started the tendency toward more view-oriented prime time cable news programming. The show is recorded late in the day in a studio in Nyc and airs every weekday on the Fox News Channel at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time and is rebroadcast at 11:00 p.m. Conservative Internet news site NewsMax’s “Top 25 Talk Radio Host” list chosen O’Reilly to the No. 2 spot as most powerful host in the country. O’Reilly’s life and vocation never have been without controversy. Progressive media watchdog organizations like Media Matters and Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting have criticized O’Reilly’s coverage on various problems, accusing him of distorting facts and using misleading or erroneous data.
